What’s new at Briley Genealogy

There are some new features at Briley Genealogy.  I have spent some time trying to decide on a course I wanted to go with both my research and the larger genealogy community as a whole.  I wanted a site on the web that specifically introduced my maiden name researchers to one another and gives them a place to trade information on ancestors and relatives.  So, the first part of my mission here, and the most important part of that mission, is to provide as big of a Briley meeting spot that I can.  I will be slowly moving my digitized information here.  I will move the Big Briley Trees here as soon as I can, with a permanent link for them.  I want this to be a site for every Briley current and ancestral (Hey!, UK and European Brileys!  We would love to hear from YOU!)  If you have a Briley story, legend, tall-tale, or research quandry to share, let me know and I will share it with the community.  I am also looking at providing a Flickr group for Briley families to share past photos and even current ones if you would like.  More information to come on that idea.  I hope to post at least once a week with some information on Briley research.

My second goal at this site, is to make this into a working genealogy blog.  I live in Virginia and there is much I can share about research here in the Old Dominion and neighboring states.  Actually, not only am I a Virginian by birth, I trace many of my family roots right back here to just after Jamestown.  I plan on having regular posts on genealogy news, my new fascination of DNA roots, cultural information I come across, colonial history, DAR/SAR, DOC/SOC, county courthouse tours, library tours (we have the wonderful Virginia State Library here and some other really great libraries), technology, and anything else genealogy related that I decide to feature.  I expect that I will provide 1-2 posts per week featuring “other” genealogy.

My third goal (and currently the last), is to start reaching out to the other related families I am researching.  This is not something that will consume my time right now.  You will probably see pages going up with that family name on them, and possibly some posts on the front page to draw them in.  I am still working on this aspect of the site.

You will also notice that I am including ads on the site.  I am trying to keep them as benign as possible, but it would be nice if the domain and hosting would pay for themselves.  I will not ask my readers for donations.  Please remember the more traffic I get the more the ads work, so if you are up for a little link love, have at it.  Regular readers, feel free to leave your website in the comments to encourage others.

Thank you again for your patience.  I know the last site was seldom updated (it was Front Page! if you can believe it) but I have a good excuse, I was busy having and raising my babies.  They aren’t all teenagers yet, but they are at least all in school and I have a little time to visit some places and share.  I have read the comments regularly, and the link to the old Dreambook page is on the Links page.  Now, I hope we can all get to know one another a little better.
